Title: Changes to Monorail

Jennings - October 19, 2009 03:26 AM (GMT)
It has been revealed that the two monorails involved in the July accident, both pink and purple, will be making a strange return. They will be combined into a new monorail that is not pink nor purple, but TEAL. The monorail is expected to become active later this year, hopefully around my trip...

Over three months after a deadly collision, Walt Disney World announced it will soon add a new monorail train to its current fleet.

A Disney representative told News 13 Thursday they have built a new train from parts from the two trains that collided in the July 5 crash that killed monorail pilot Austin Wuennenberg, 21.

The new train is expected to go into service in the next few months, bringing the fleet up to 11 trains.

Disney distinguishes its monorail train by colors. The new train, which will feature a teal stripe, was built from the remains of monorails Pink and Purple. Disney retired those colors out of respect for Wuennenberg and his fellow pilots.

Another train is expected to be added in 2010, bringing the fleet back to a full 12 trains.

I think I know someone who will not be too happy about the pink monorail not returning..... :dumbo:

Sorry pink and purple, but teal is an awesome color. I think this new Monorail will be DY-NA-MITE!

i actually don't think I have ever been on the pink... it seems I always just miss it and I am always riding the silver or the gold.

While I will certainly miss seeing Pink riding the rail - I can understand the decision to retire both colors from service. During my trip in July, I had the opportunity to speak with a few Monorail cast members while waiting at the Polynesian - and it was a common thought that it would be too painful for these people to see Pink and Purple back in service.

Bravo to Disney for coming up with an alternative, and for thinking of the big picture :)

Besides, Monorail Coral is really a light pink...

lol!

I think it's good that Disney is respecting the victim in their own way, even if its a small way.
