I remember not too long ago I was looking at the Resident Evil 5 "Collector's Edition" package. These new styles of packaging games came with a whole bunch of extra crap like figurines and patches (actual patches), in RE5's case even a messenger bag! I was thinking this was crazy, they could never go worse than this....but then I was corrected.
I saw the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2's Prestige Edition within a half hour. I've thought about it a lot and I can't really say anything but this. ARE YOU FRIGGIN KIDDING ME. In this special edition of the game it comes with the game, a solid metal case, and umm...fully functional army night vision goggles.
So this brings up a couple points with me. First off, isn't this a bit off the deep end? Does nobody else see this as a little insane? Additionally, is this really helping gaming's image? Many protective parents see the Call of Duty games as bad enough as it sucks you into a bit of (in some cases) a dramatized, "realistic" war. Many parents argue that these games will brainwash their kids or whatever...which really hasn't been true in my mind until this. This is actual army equipment being given out with a game, this is like giving meth with GTA IV!
Anyway, I find the whole thing ridiculous..and I personally will be buying the regular version not this commercial crap. Go ahead and share your thoughts on this....
Uhm im not really in to the Call of Duty gaming series but I may get this edition of it just for the night vision goggles especially if they're army quality.
Back on topic though. I agree that the extent they go to in order to commercialize is way over done. We are in a recession and if they have the money to waste making limited edition crap then by all means go for it. And if your an adult whose whole life is playing video games, then your a loser. Scratch that, then you should buy it (if you even have a job to pay for it). I see this just as a way that children with parents that make more money can flex their money making muscle and that video game companies can make a little extra dough for some crap.
