Description: Who knows!!
Groovy S. - January 13, 2009 04:06 AM (GMT)
http://disney.go.com/23/twenty_three/preview/index.htmlNobody knows what it is. It could be anything. I personally think it's a game. We'll have to wait and see.

I put my e-mail. Can't wait to see what it is.
Scorsese - January 13, 2009 06:58 AM (GMT)
It may be a movie...
edit - Some people are saying it might have something to do with a new "Disney community initiative" that caters to the die-hard Disney fans. One person who spoke to a Disney executive at CES this year gathered that it also had something to do with a convention. Who knows?

Ok , so I'm gonna go out on a limb here. When I saw 23 I thought of genetic testing. We have 23 pairs of chromosomes and with Scorsese saying it might be for hard-core Disney fans maybe those fans have a genetic link or Disney can be found in your DNA. :hmm:
 Like I said I went out on a limb!

Interesting. Maybe it's a math equation. Let's see:
To be 23 on March 10th you would have had to be born in 1976.
So I looked up Disney March 10th 1976. All I found was that in March 1976 the 50-millionth guest entered WDW. I believe the actual day was March 2nd though.
Don't know if I'm close but I think I'm on to something.

Nice Work Pink!!! You might have something.

Some other ideas I have found online::
The Walt Disney Company was founded in 1923.
Pixar is 23 years old this year.
Disney is coming out with 23 new family style adventure vacations in 2009.
(Not sure on the validity of this one.)
Jim Carrey's Movie "The Number 23" was released on February 23, 2007

Pink you're on to some interesting ideas. :sneaky:

Pinocchio, Return from Witch Mountain and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea are scheduled to be rereleased on DVD on 3/10. And Race to Witch Mountains opens in theaters on March 13.
The Henson movie Labyrinth also turns 23 this year, but not until June.
I think the fan club is probably it. On DWT there is a post about a 100 dollar yearly fee to be in the club that gets you special item offers and an invitation to a convention in either Anaheim or Orlando.

From what I've read that seems like the most prominent argument people are making. I think this is most likely what it is about, but nobody really knows for sure!

Hopefully its something effecting everyone. When I saw the background of the page I immediately thought pirates.

it seems like most of the site is open to non-members but the magazine and events require the membership card. since i probably wont be flying to DLR the week that school starts i dont think i will be needing the memberhip this year. also the laughingplace magazine looks alot cooler then D23. not sure what its called but i know Mad gets it.
Pinkcat - March 11, 2009 05:18 PM (GMT)
 I agree! I was expecting something more than a snoozefest.
All it did was keep me WISHING I was 23!
ArgoGreenDragon - March 12, 2009 07:03 PM (GMT)
Wow, I didn't think it would be that disappointing :(
Jimothy - March 13, 2009 07:21 PM (GMT)
As much as I hate to admit it this kinda just shows how bad the company is doing during these times..
What's the point of paying $75 to join. Then what, you get magazines which advertise their products and a discounted ticket to the Disney Fan Expo.
Oh wait, but you do get permision to spend more money on EXCLUSIVE products.
Club 23? More like Club "Help The Shareholders".
They're pretty much trying to encourage their most loyal customers to pay to be a Disney Fan and they make you feel that you aren't if you don't pay the $75.
Sorry.

Ok, so I was pretty disapointed about this at first. However, I did pick up the first issue at disney. It was actually pretty interesting and well done, I'm not gonna lie, it's cool and all, but the magazines alone aren't the seller. I then began to consider getting a membership, so I did some more investigating. From what I saw these little collectibles aren't so little. They're pretty good size prints of artisit renditions, (copys of ones found in the archives). For example, I saw one that was for mickey's 80th birthday, a painting of mickey drawing a smile on the earth. I would figure the price for such an object would normally be around 20 dollars. Then you figure the four magazines are probably around 15 dollars each. If there's four than it's 60 dollars alone, but than your getting a bonus collectable 4 times too adding up to 80 dollars. 60+80= 140, about double the price of what the actual membership cost is, and that's not including the tickets to the expo.
I dont think I probably changed anybody's mind, I myself am still on the fence about this.
Jimothy - April 6, 2009 03:23 PM (GMT)
The question is.. how much you actually WANT that stuff and how much are you willing to pay for it.
Coolimagineer - May 22, 2009 01:10 PM (GMT)
Alright, so nobody get upset...but I actually decided the join D23....
A list of completely FREE events came out for D23 members only (Taking place in the WDW, DLR, LA, and NYC area) and I finally just broke down and bought it. Now in my last post I did state that it was double the price, at $140. Now i'll be honest with you one of the events that happens to be going on is a completely free once in a life time oppurtunity. A tour of the Walt Disney Archives, lasting about 3 hours. There are only two dates for this and the archives have never been opened, let alone seen before for a guest. There's also events like a D23 Speaker show with such figures as Tony Baxter, an exclusive midnight premiere of Up, and even Illuminations receptions. Once again all this is free.
Now, at least to me, that 75 dollars doesn't seem too bad...but I guess that's just my opinion...
