Title: Walt's Fading Reputation

Scorsese - May 26, 2008 05:35 PM (GMT)
More and more these days I find comments online on social news sites that mention Walt Disney in a horribly negative light. Many people still believe he was a strict anti-semite, a nazi sympathizer, and a "cretin" of an individual who abused his animators and exploited intellectual property.

All of this is ridiculous and completely untrue, and it's been proven by history that he was an amazingly caring individual. It's just sad that people don't bother to look up the facts and just decide to keep these lies around as if they were the truth.

I'm more concerned that eventually his reputation will keep declining like this all because of a few false rumors that are spread by those who don't know any better.

What can we do to help? To start, anytime you encounter someone like this who believes these things, set them straight! It's not a matter of creating your own propaganda, it's just a matter of giving the facts.

Anti-Semite? He employed many blacks and Jews at his studio, and even homosexuals.

Nazi sympathizer? I don't even know how this even got started.

Abused his animators? He often paid them more than he paid himself. He also built that state-of-the-art studio after Snow White, not for himself but to pay homage to his workers.

LMAO ASL ASL GG TYVM TTYL TTFN WHAAAAAHAHAHA!

OMG WHERE?

TELL ME HOW THE JIVE IS!

Wait a minute..

Walt's a hero of mine. He's been slandered since the day he became somebody, and that still doesn't effect my admiration for the man. I hate what it's become.. after his family slowly fade out of control, but I could still cry like a girl watching a documentary about him.

It's lame people want to put him in a bad light, but that's impossible and a waste of time.

I feel the same way you do. I remeber my dad telling me Walt was "a fruit cake" on a trip to WDW when I was little. Just because the man thought outside the box, and created something back in the 60's people just could wrap their brains around they labeled him different.

It is a overwhelming thought to think what Walt did for your culture.

BTW-my parents went on a date to the World's Fair in 1964 and Mom remembers riding on the people mover :woot:

:pixiedust: I refuse to believe that a man with a dream, that has touched so many lives in a positive way, was anything but a true saint.

Man, I can't believe people would say things like that! Makes me want to draw things. Bad things! Bad things with people and nooses! Nooses made from mickey-shaped pretzels!

MadAboutMickey - May 31, 2008 03:51 PM (GMT)
^^

 Draw that! I want to see how you make a noose out of a mickey pretzel. :P

Jessiestudio - May 31, 2008 04:03 PM (GMT)
 for some reason i dont think thats the best thing for Walts rep

Day in and day out i get teased at my school for loving disney so i think ive probably heard 99.9% of the Walt jokes in circulation right now. By now i just shrug them off since the teasers are the ones who are really going to be missing the true magic when they next visit the parks while ill be the one in neverland.

:pixiedust:
...... :D < me :duh: :( :duh: < them

You get TEASED for liking Disney? I occasionally get little comments...but I don't get made fun of!

That's low. I hate it when people do that.

Yeah, that's just another reason to hit the real life ignore button. :ignore:
But that's why drawing is just so much fun - you can draw your enemies experiencing horrible things. Speaking of Mickey Pretzel nooses, I'll get started on that right away ;)

I've heard many of the Walt being a Nazi comments, and it's total B.S. (He made shorts AGAINST the war and Nazis!)

I do get teased about liking Disney. It usually gets started if I refer to something disney. So the best thing to do is usually keep disney on the downlow. Since I've been doing that I dont get teased as much.

Sadly I find this already at work. There is someone I work with that when he found out I'm a big disney fan (not hard to notice since I wear disney pins at work) he started in saying that Walt was nothing more than a old man who like sex. I Don't think he thought I would fight back with that.

It's pretty sad that he thinks that way. You definitely shouldn't have to hide that you're a fan of him or the company just because some people don't get it.

How could you possibly mistake Walt Disney for Borat? :hmm:

My reply to him would have been "Yep, that was Walt - a good old fashioned American Man"

Then I would have sucker punched him and taken him down...

a little off topic but:

Run Friend Run! that bolder is gaining lol :indy:

When people make jokes about the whole Nazi thing I dont mind (like in Family Guy) its only when people truely believe he was like that is when I'll speak up. Its just terrible how people now a days are rarely remembered for the good that they did, and always for terrible things.
