There's only a few places in the USA that are dark enough to be able to see skies like that at night. City light pollution just totally ruins it.
Death Valley is one of the places where you could see the cosmos in the night sky.

I'm not sure, but our solar system orbits this galaxy very close to the center, so its possible. Maybe Jeeves would know.
