Disney Legend Joyce Carlson dies Jan 4, 2008 One of Disney's creative team icons has passed away at the age of 84. Joyce Carlson's career began in 1944 when she joined the office staff at Walt Disney Productions in California. Her creativity came to light and she eventually became the lead ink artist for Disney's Lady and the Tramp feature film. When technology reduced the need for ink artists, Ms. Carlson focused on Disney attractions. She is best known for creating many of the dolls for the 1964 World's Fair 'it's a small world' pavilion. She continued to lend her talents to rides in Disney's California, Florida, Tokyo and Paris theme parks. Upon being named a Disney Legend, she was honored with a second floor window on Main Street with the inscription "Dolls by Miss Joyce, Dollmaker for the World." Joyce Carlson is the first woman in the company's history to reach both the 50 and 55 year milestones. While she retired in 2000, she continued working part time through 2006. |
