It's true! I found this picture on another site-

I think that this is a great idea! I love Disney Art and collectables (Disney Gallery...RIP :(), and if it's anything like the art store in Epcot, it will probably have some great books for sale.

Of course, I miss VMK Central, but at least something good is coming in it's place. I do kind of wish they'd convert it to an actual cinema, though, like the one in Disneyland.

I also found this on another site. I believe if I heard correctly, that the Art of Disney store is moving from Cinderella's Castle to this new place. :java:

Not sure if its true or not, but rumor has it that the Main Street Fire House will be replaced by another type of shop. Soon as LouLou can get any info on it I will let everyone know. :(

Is nothing on Main Street sacred?????

All I have to say is this - if they EVER even think about messing around with that Barber Shop, simply to find more retail space - they will have me to deal with, and I can assure you, I am able to send Maleficent into hiding when I lose my temper!!!

:aengus:

GrmGrninGhost - November 14, 2007 08:34 PM (GMT)
i totally agree with you Friend, Main Street needs to be left how it is. its just amazing. Now its just being turned into a giant shopping center.

Rocky - November 14, 2007 08:51 PM (GMT)
Walts dream was to have Main Street USA be a replica of a small town with a working Cinema, Firehouse, Bank, sad to see it all go, and turn all of Main Street into a big shopping center. :(

Um especially since all the things that are sold in Main Stree can be found in every other shop in MK and in the other parks!

If the shops were unique in their items, I would shop ALOT more. Everytime I exit a ride I don't stay and shop because I know I can find all of it somewhere else anyways.

Goes to show ya, Disney has become all about money lately. It's one of those "If Walt was alive now, what would he think of his company?" moments. :wall:

Howze - November 15, 2007 03:34 AM (GMT)
What's next? They gonna tear it all down and make a main street mall?

Sorry to be nit-picky, but that was nearly impossible to read - please try to use punctuation in your posts, it makes things easier to read and helps to make your points more clear.

Thanks!!

Last week I was in the Magic Kingdom at WDW. It was sad to see the Cinema as the Art Of Disney, but I was happy that the Cinema is still there. :woot:

Looks cool Rock, what do they have playing on the monitors now?

Rocky - November 29, 2007 10:30 PM (GMT)
LouLou started working there 2 weeks ago :woot: She told me to tell everyone to stop by and say hello :)
I just asked LouLou what was playing on the screen there now, she said " There continuously playing Silly Symphony"

Coolimagineer - November 29, 2007 10:43 PM (GMT)
Hmm, I wonder if this will lower visits to the theatre in the exposition hall

Mom-moment, Friend?

Anyway, I agree with her.

What's next? "Disney co. has just decided to rename their parks "Walt Disney Mall" Come and shop like crazy!"

It's just not right to do such a thing to the public --- No, scratch that. To Walt himself. Disney is turning into Walt's nightmare and that was NEVER its purpose. It seems that Disney is only interested in making money, money, and more MONEY (cough, High School Musical, cough ).

I feel sorry for Walt...
:(

SKKaty - November 30, 2007 01:09 PM (GMT)
I'm not sure where everyone gets the impression that Walt was not interested in money. Because he was.
I'm not saying he would do the same things that the company is now doing, but I doubt it would be far off.

Don't get me wrong. I love Walt. But everyone seems to have this vision of him that all he wanted to do was make everyone happy and forget about the money. And that is just not true.

But everyone seems to have this vision of him that all he wanted to do was make everyone happy and forget about the money. And that is just not true.

From what I know, his only purpose to making money was to pour it back into the company to create something new. It's partly why he never had considerable personal wealth throughout the majority of his life.

Yes he needed to make money, otherwise he couldn't have kept the business going. But that doesn't mean he put money ahead of the integrity of what he was working on. He's done profit-centric things like renaming Snow White castle to Sleeping Beauty castle to promote his movie, but it's usually not something that interferes with the quality of the show.

He disregarded the value of money in everything he'd done. It was why Snow White went 4x over budget. It only showed that he didn't in fact care about money for money's sake, just as a vehicle to create what he wanted to create and keep his employees happy. The art always came first, he just happened to be smart enough to figure out how to keep the art first and still profit, which is where the long-term profit model came in. That's why everybody looks up to this guy so much, because he actually had the integrity he was known for.

SKKaty - November 30, 2007 06:16 PM (GMT)
I realize that it may have seemed I was calling him an insensitive money hungry business owner. I do not think that in the slightest.

My point was, to be successful money must be made. Everyone always says Disney just wants to make money. But in my opinion they are still putting out quality items, attractions, theme parks, movies, etc even today after Walt Disney. These quality items outweigh the things they produce for a quick buck. Therefore they deserve the money they bring in. Sometimes, I don't like some things they decide, but other people do like these things, so how exactly are they supposed to make everyone happy? And how are they supposed to keep bringing us these things without making some decisions based on what will bring them more money?

This is not something I wish to get into an argument about at any rate. I have no problems with him and have read great things about him. I look up to him for the things he has accomplished. Heck I love the man! But he was human. Not even Walt could have achieved perfection. With today's technology, I think even he would do things the easy way to make a quick buck. If he were here right now, we would all still find something to complain about. Because if he were here right now we would not appreciate him as much as we do now since he has passed.

I guess I just get tired of the "What Would Walt Do?" discussions when in reality I think any business owner is most definately concerned about what makes money.

My negativity was in response to the "I feel sorry for Walt." comment. Why? Because Walt Disney World has never been more popular then it is right now? I think he would be proud and I don't feel Disney is turning into Walt's Nightmare at all. Everyone makes poor decisions, as I am sure Walt has made his fair share of them in his career. As he would if he were still alive. He would most definately get rid of outdated attractions and come up with new exciting ideas that won't please everyone. I myself have complained about the shops on Main Street but I will keep giving my money to Disney despite any faults they might have because nothing brings me joy like they have in my life.
