Title: O'Canada Update!

Walt Disney World's Epcot Canada pavilion will be seeing an updated film for there attraction, O Canada, very soon. The current film, made in 1982, is very outdated and will be replaced in August.

The O Canada film is shown on a 360 degree screen, and is still quite popular with guests. However, the film receives many complaints year after year, all fielded by the Canadian Tourism Commission, because of the 25 year old "hokey" footage. After seven years of campaigning for a new film, the new version has finally come to fruition, allegedly with the help of Canadians Martin Short and Eva Avila.

The official Disney World website states that the attraction will be closed August 20-24 for refurbishment, but the Walt Disney Canada spokeswoman, Angela Saclamais, says "we are expecting some good things over at Epcot...but we're not prepared to announce anything officially at this time."

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- In September, Walt Disney World guests can glimpse today's Canada in a 14-minute motion picture presented in CircleVision 360 as a major feature of the Canada pavilion in Epcot World Showcase. Titled "O Canada!" the updated film includes new scenes highlighting Canada's natural beauty, cosmopolitan cities and diverse populace.

In addition, the film is now hosted by Canadian actor Martin Short, whose charm, warmth and wit add a distinct and authentic flair. Walt Disney Imagineers collaborated with the Canadian Tourism Commission to update the film, including new orchestration and images, and Canadian Idol winner Eva Avila singing the music of "O Canada!"

The motion picture takes guests from the far northeastern shores of Newfoundland's Bay of Fundy by railroad to the southwestern beauty and tranquility of Buchart Gardens in British Columbia. Canada's natural beauty is majestically displayed -- from the 800-year-old redwood trees of Cathedral Grove to the astounding splendor of Horseshoe Falls to the snowy mountains of Kananaskis Valley.

The film includes the nation's capital, Ottawa, with its Parliament buildings and Rideau Canal; the sophistication of Toronto, with its nightlife and film festivals; and Quebec City, the cradle of French civilization in Canada. Also mentioned: the not-so-famous but artfully named small towns of Moose Jaw and Medicine Hat. The people of Canada are featured in outdoor activities including skiing, whitewater rafting and hockey.

I have never had an interest in taking time out of my day to see the old film, but I think I will definately be watching it on our next trip after the update.

Never eat in Canada? I heard it was one of the best.

On my last trip I had a chance to get in for lunch (apparently it's difficult to get into), but I decided on Morrocco instead because it was not crowded and I wanted to catch the Belly Dancer show.

What's a matter you eh? Gotta no respect? Whatta you think you do? Why you looka so sad eh? It's a not so bad! It's a nice a place! Ah get off of Canada's case! :D

Lyrics changed by me to avoid getting SLAPPED!

So seriously....you had a bad experience there? We didn't stop to eat there but I've heard it is one of the best as well. Do they have a Beaver Tail vendor? I cannot remember.

I'm glad they are updating the movie. I mean come on! Would you like visitors to come see a movie made about America from 1982?

Sounds wonderful. Still waiting to hear what happened to Ranch in Canada.

Lets see if I can remember..

I was on a meet to meet DWT members: Summer, DissyLove, JediPrincess and, GARain.. they had booked us a table at the Canada restraunt.

We got there 5 minutes before we were due, and ended up waiting another 40 minutes for them to let us in and seat us. All the dishes weren't too appealing to me, so I went with a steak. When it arrived, it was about the size of a meatball, and just as round. It was like $35.00 dollars, and very gross.

I'd much rather go with what I know, and eat at Morocco (sp?) or Mexico.

Well that doesn't sound very appetizing! :jester: Goofy Canadian wait staff that day I guess? You need to make the REAL trip up north and have yourself a big o'Alberta Beef Filet Mignon. YUMMY!

I was actually disappointed when I found out that some staff were not Canadian during my first visit visit 7 years ago… The meal itself was actually quite good but perhaps it’s changed since then.
Anyways, the film has been something people have been complaining about for a number of years. It is very dated and still I have always enjoyed the wonderful scenery shown in the film. But like everyone else, I’ll be looking forward to the new version.
For anyone who hasn't seen the old version, you can view it here at O Canada!
